🌟 **Math Fun with Miss Patty!** 🌟

Today in Kindergarten, Miss Patty and the Kiddos had a blast learning to add single-digit numbers with the help of Ozobots! 🤖✨ The kids loved drawing paths and watching their answers come to life as the robots followed their calculations. It was a fantastic hands-on way to reinforce those math skills, and everyone got involved in the fun! 🧮💡

Another February's Commons Area Activity

A LEGO station isn’t just for fun (though it *is* fun 😄) — it supports learning in some really powerful ways:

🧠 Builds Brain Power

LEGO activities strengthen problem-solving, critical thinking, and planning skills. Students learn to try, fail, fix, and try again — just like real-life learning.

✋ Improves Fine Motor Skills
Younger students especially build hand strength and coordination, which helps with writing and everyday tasks.

🤝 Encourages Teamwork & Communication
Students collaborate, share ideas, and work together to design and build — great practice for social skills.

📐 Supports Math, Science & Engineering Concepts
LEGO naturally introduces:
* Patterns and symmetry
* Measurement and spatial reasoning
* Basic engineering and physics

** Sparks Creativity & Imagination
Open-ended building lets students express ideas and stories in ways worksheets never could.

😌 Provides a Calm, Focused Learning Space
For many kids, building is relaxing and helps with emotional regulation and focus.

Winter Weather and Recess Participation

School Handbook - (Read below on Fresh Air and Brain Research)

During colder weather, it is mandatory for all K-6th grade students to wear a hat/headband, gloves, and a warm winter jacket/coat. Snow boots and snow pants are also necessary when snow is present. It’s important to remember that bus driver regulations require appropriate winter attire for students boarding the bus. Parents will receive notification if their child arrives without proper winter clothing.

Recess supervisors will continuously monitor weather conditions.

CURRENT Feels Like Temperature Students Wear:

-10F and below .........................Automatically inside recess

Lower than 40F..........................All winter gear (As Necessary)

40F – 49....................................Long sleeves or coats

50F or higher..............................Long sleeves, short sleeves or shorts

Recess is an important part of the school day, and participation is encouraged for all students unless a daily written note from a parent/guardian or a doctor’s excuse is provided. Students will go outside for recess whenever weather and health conditions allow.

During winter, recess will be held outdoors until the temperature (including wind chill) reaches -10°F.

Please make sure your child/students come prepared with snow pants, boots, coats, hats, and gloves.

If your child/students are unable to provide any of these items, the school will help out. Students must be dressed appropriately for cold and wet conditions.

When the playground is muddy, wet, or snowy, snow boots and snow pants are required to play in those areas. Students without this gear will be asked to stay in designated dry areas.

🧠 How Fresh Air Helps the Brain

**1. More oxygen = sharper thinking**
Outdoor air has higher oxygen levels and fewer indoor pollutants. More oxygen to the brain improves: Attention, Memory, Processing speed

**2. Nature reduces stress — fast** 🌿
Spending time outdoors lowers cortisol (the stress hormone). When stress drops, the brain: Learns better, Regulates emotions better, Focuses longer.

**3. Movement + air boosts learning**
Even short outdoor breaks increase: Blood flow to the brain, Alertness, On-task behavior in kids

**4. Better mood = better learning**
Fresh air and sunlight increase serotonin and dopamine — chemicals tied to: Motivation, Happiness, Attention

📚 What this means for students (and adults)

Short outdoor breaks can:
✅ Improve concentration
✅ Reduce fidgeting
✅ Boost memory
✅ Lower anxiety

February Message:

February may be the shortest month of the year, but it’s packed with plenty of action! Our classrooms are buzzing with learning, growth, and—most importantly—kindness.

Elementary students are working hard, helping each other out, and proving that good things really do come in small, snowy packages. Quick reminder: don’t forget to send your kids dressed for the winter wonderland outside, so they can fully enjoy their outdoor recess.

Junior and High School Students are busy with their 2nd semester and enjoy the new opportunities that on-line and hands-on classes have given them.

Also, keep up the good work at home—reading with your child and communicating about their day is like giving their brain a high-five. Seriously, it makes all the difference!

Thank you for being awesome partners in this adventure. We’re so proud of the effort our students and staff put in every day, and we can’t wait to see what exciting things February has in store!

Emily is making Fry bread and Wojapi both are **traditional Native American foods**, especially common among Plains tribes.

Fry bread is a **simple flatbread** made from: flour, water, salt and baking powder

The dough is flattened and **fried in oil or fat** until it puffs up and turns golden. It’s crispy on the outside and soft inside.

Fry bread has both cultural pride and complicated history.

### 🫐 Wojapi (sometimes spelled wasna or chokecherry sauce)

Wojapi is a **thick berry sauce or pudding**, traditionally made from:
chokecherries, blueberries, or other berries,
water
sometimes a natural thickener (like crushed seeds or flour

Fry bread + wojapi is a **classic, comforting combo**—kind of like bread with jam, but deeply tied to Native culture and tradition.

Thank You Emily for sharing with the staff and students. You Rock Emily

Check this out — we’ve officially got a **student CEO taking over the snack world!**

Meet the boss of **Munchies Market** — serving up Filipino snacks, C2 drinks, and enough goodies to make recess feel like a shopping spree. 🛍️🍭

She’s not just selling snacks… she’s running inventory, handling customers, building a brand, and proving that future entrepreneurs start young (and apparently with great taste).

Wall Street who? We’ve got **Snack Street** right here at school! 😂👏

February's Commons Area Activity

TECH AGE KIDS Program 💻🚀 Over Write

The commons area has officially transformed into the coolest spot in the building — home of the Tech Age Kids Program, Over Write -

The **Overwrite Program** is a technology and coding activity designed especially for K–12 students. It focuses on helping kids become confident digital creators — not just users of technology.

In a fun, hands-on way, students learn things like:

💻 Coding and basic programming
🧠 Problem-solving and logical thinking
🎮 Game design and interactive projects
🎨 Digital creativity (animations, storytelling, design)
🤝 Collaboration and teamwork

From clicking and coding to creating and collaborating, you can hear the excitement (and a little friendly chaos 😄) as students work together and try new things. It’s amazing to see their confidence grow while they’re having so much fun they don’t even realize how much they’re learning!

Who knew the commons could turn into a mini innovation lab? So cool — and even cooler watching our students become tech superstars! 🌟

Thanks Sue Isbell, your the greatest.

Big congratulations to our very own Senior Zane for being named a starter on the 2025–2026 SRCS Boys Basketball Team. All those practices, and extra shots are paying off.

Now it’s our turn — let’s pack the stands, bring the noise, and cheer like we’re part of the team (even if we’re just really good at clapping).

Let’s go, Zane! Have a Great Seaon💪🎉

Our Cooperative Work Experience class has been busy building real-world career skills! 💼✨ Thanks Miss Kacey

Students recently earned their **Canva certification** and put those new skills to work by creating professional materials for **two different job opportunities**. Along the way, they learned how to read and analyze job ads — figuring out exactly what employers are looking for and how to tailor their work to match.

The learning didn’t stop there! Students **peer reviewed each other’s work**, gave constructive feedback, made corrections, and then resubmitted their projects for a final grade — just like in the real world where revisions and teamwork matter.

This is an awesome way to prepare our students for life beyond the classroom — communication, creativity, collaboration, and career readiness all in one!

And next up… **student interviews!** 😄 Can’t wait to hear what they’ve learned and see them shine!
