d. Memorial Day, the last Monday in May.
e. The anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the fourth day of July.
f. Labor Day, the first Monday in September.
g. Veteran's Day, the eleventh day of November.
h. Thanksgiving Day, the fourth Thursday in November.
i. Christmas Day, the twenty-fifth day of December.
2. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection 1, if the first day of January, the fourth
day of July, the eleventh day of November, or the twenty-fifth day of December is a
Sunday, the school district shall observe the holiday on the following Monday.
3. Notwithstanding the provisions of subsection 1, if the eleventh day of November is a
Saturday, the school district shall observe the holiday on the preceding Friday.
*November 11th is on a Tuesday this year, so on Tuesday November 11th we will not have school in observance of Veteran's Day.

SUPERINTENDENT MESSAGE
Dear Selfridge Staff and Students,
I am truly impressed by the effort, enthusiasm, and collaboration I see every day across our school. Your commitment is creating incredible momentum—and I believe in you to keep pushing forward as we strive to make this the best school year ever!
Every day in school matters. Research shows that students who attend regularly achieve at higher levels than those who miss class frequently. In fact, only about 10% of students who are chronically absent reach proficiency in reading and math, compared to nearly 40% of students with strong attendance. Even just a few days missed can make a noticeable difference—students with average absences see major drops in math and reading proficiency across entire grades.
Consistent attendance builds habits of success and ensures we make the most of every learning opportunity.
Completing every assignment is just as vital. Students who stay on top of their work strengthen understanding, build confidence, and stay better connected to their teachers and classmates. Each day and each effort count—showing up and giving your best truly add up to long-term success.
Let’s continue to support one another, stay engaged, and finish each day stronger than the one before. Together, we can make Selfridge K–12 a model of excellence.
With pride and confidence in you all,
David Mahon

1st Quarter Incentive Trip Recap 🎉
What a great time we had on our 1st Quarter Incentive Trip! Congratulations to all the students who earned this opportunity by maintaining at least 90% attendance and zero F’s—your hard work and dedication paid off!
We kicked off the day at the Heritage Center, where students explored and researched our rich history—an especially meaningful experience in honor of Indigenous People’s Day. It was a powerful and educational way to reflect on our past and learn more about the cultures that shaped our community.
Next stop: Papa’s Pumpkin Patch! From the High School to Junior High and Elementary students, everyone had a blast. 🌽🎃
Check out the photos and relive the fun—we're proud of each of you!

Missed the Spirit Week Talent Show? Don’t worry — we’ve got *receipts* (aka photos)! 📸
From solo superstars to group acts that could headline their own world tour (or at least the school commons area), our students *brought the school down* with talent, creativity, and just the right amount of glitter.
But the real MVPs? The crowd! Nothing beats the way students and families cheered like it was the Super Bowl of Talent Shows — before *and* after each performance. The support was so loud, even both janitors were clapping.
Seriously, it was a day full of laughs, applause, and probably a few stage-fright butterflies turned into rockstars. 🦋➡️🎤
Swipe through the pics and relive the magic!
