2 hour Late Start Bell Schedule for today, Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Selfridge K-12 students and staff will be doing a 2 hour Late Start for school today. Bus routes will be approximately 2 hours later than your normal pick up time. Busses should arrive at the school around 9:40 AM, and classes are to begin at 10:00 AM. School will get out at the normal time of 3:30 PM. Student and staff safety is always our highest priority. Thank you for your flexibility.
*We will continue to monitor the weather and road conditions every day and make the decisions to keep safety as our top priority for all students and staff. As soon as a decision of a change in school day status (cancellation, virtual day or 2 hour late start day), you will be notified as early as possible. These decisions are some of the toughest decisions that a superintendent has to make. I appreciate all of the continued support I receive on a daily basis from this school district.

The bleachers are officially being installed—finally! I can’t wait. Soon we’ll have real seating instead of doing the ‘spectator squat’ or leaning against the wall pretending our knees don’t hurt. It’s going to look amazing when it’s all done. Get ready, everyone… our gym glow-up is underway!

Yesterday during our JOM meeting, we reviewed the Parent Surveys—thank you to all the families who took the time to complete them. Your feedback is truly appreciated. Here are a couple of items we want to address:
1) Tutoring/Homework Help
Several families indicated that tutoring would be helpful. We want to remind everyone that NIGHT LIGHTS provides tutoring and homework assistance every Monday and Wednesday from 3:30–5:00 PM.
If you would like your child to stay for tutoring or homework help, just let us know! Bus service is available after Night Lights, making it easy for students to participate.
2) Culture Mentors / Instructor
We are currently gathering interest from local patrons who may be interested in a part-time position supporting our Cultural Programming. If you or someone you know would like to help, please give Mr. S. a call at the school for more information.

Permission slips for haircuts were sent home with students today.
Don’t worry—our older students didn’t outdo the Kindergarten crew today! Those little learners *rocked it* during their UFLI lesson. They came in ready to work, and I’m pretty sure a few of them were silently flexing like, ‘Watch this, big kids.’
The focus was there, the energy was high, and the excitement was off the charts. It’s so cool to see our youngest students jumping right into the routines and showing everyone how it’s done.

Brandon made a quick trip to the casino—don’t worry, he didn’t hit the slots, he hit the BOOKS! He picked up a great selection for our students, and we couldn’t be more excited. These books will be used as Christmas gifts and added to our classroom libraries, giving our kids even more chances to dive into new adventures. It’s pretty awesome when a ‘casino run’ turns into a literacy mission! Thank you, Brandon, for helping us stack those shelves. Read AWAY, students—may the odds be ever in your favor.

Our 7th graders made a special delivery today—beautiful marigolds for the staff! These weren’t store-bought either… they were grown right here in our water towers. From tiny seed to full bloom, the students handled it all. It’s amazing to see learning come alive through hands-on activities like this.
And here’s a fun fact the kids loved: some flowers are actually edible! Science is basically cooking… just with goggles, soil, and a lot more questions. But remember—just like in the science lab, *do not lick the spoon.* LOL

More UFLI sentence-building fun today, and let me tell you—these kids were *on a roll*. They wrapped up the activity, the timer beeped, and instead of cheering for recess, the students practically staged a peaceful protest for MORE sentence-building time. When students are begging to keep writing, you know something magical (and slightly suspicious) is happening.
So I guess we’ll be adding this to tomorrow’s agenda… and probably the rest of the week… because who am we to stand in the way of budding authors with serious enthusiasm? Way to go, sentence superstars—your teacher’s heart is full.

UFLI hard at work in 1st and 2nd grade! Our students are loving the routine and growing more confident every day. Today they worked on building simple sentences, and it was amazing to see their excitement as everything started to click. Love watching their progress! Mr. Sondag even made a sentence with the students.
Our kindergarten kiddos are settling in beautifully—and discovering that reading is basically a superpower! Today’s mission: tackle the short and long *i*. Spoiler alert: they crushed it. Great job, Miss Mica and our tiny geniuses!
